The Microfinance Council of the Philippines, Inc. (MCPI) is a network of 44 institutions working towards the rapid development of the microfinance industry in the Philippines. The 45 institutions include 36 practitioners and 9 service providers. While membership among the practitioners is currently dominated by non-government organizations (NGOs), the roster of practitioners also includes microfinance-oriented rural banks and one thrift bank. MCPI membership is restricted to NGOs, thrift banks, development banks, rural banks, cooperatives, and credit unions engaged in retail microfinance operations. To become a regular member, the MFI must have a minimum number of 1,000 active clients and a loan portfolio outstanding of at least PhP 3 million.
