RBAP-MABS Participating Bank to Share Experiences During the Mobile Money Transfer Asia Pacific Conference

The leading event for Mobile money in the Asia Pacific region will bring together stakeholders from banks, MNOs, MFIs, rural banks and regulators at the Mobile Money Transfer Asia Pacific Conference (MMT-APAC) in Singapore from January 30 – February 2, 2012.

In line with this event, GM Bank, one of the MABS Participating Banks will share its experience in the session: Seizing mobile money innovations to support banking services to facilitate the growth and development of rural communities. The presentation will focus on: (1) Collaboration with Globe Telecom’s GXI to make use of the GCASH mobile money platform to faciliate greater access to banking services for clients in rural areas as well as (2) experiences working to increase cash in and out outlets by working with GCASH agents as well as local merchants.

Mobile Phone Banking Services Initiative Highlighted During the 50th Anniversary of USAID and Peace Corps

The United States Agency for International Development Agency (USAID) and Peace Corps organized an event demonstrating their involvement in the Philippines to mark their 50th anniversary last November 4 at the SM Mall of Asia Music Hall. In line with the event, the Rural Bankers Association of the Philippines-Microenterprise Access to Banking Services (RBAP-MABS) program presented the use of new mobile technology for microenterprise.

Philippine Rural Banks’ Mobile Phone Banking Experiences Highlighted at the Connected World Forum in Dubai

The United States Agency for International Development Agency (USAID)-supported Rural Bankers Association of the Philippines-Microenterprise Access to Banking Services (RBAP-MABS) Program was highlighted during the Connected World Forum held in Dubai from October 31 – November 3, 2011. This event focused on how to launch and scale ‘mobile lifeline services’ including: Mobile Money (M-Money), M-Health, M-Education, and M-Agriculture. Over 600 participants, exhibitors and presenters representing mobile network operators, banks, healthcare providers, insurance companies, payment providers, and regulators from around the world shared their experiences during the four-day event.

The RBAP-MABS Chief of Party provided an update and shared with peers about the experiences of rural banks in the Philippines which are effectively using mobile money transfer platforms to expand outreach to more clients as well as providing new products and services.
