RBAP-MABS Participates in the Microinsurance Advocacy Training

In celebration of Microinsurance Month, a three-day Training on Microinsurance Advocacy (TOMA) was held in Tagaytay City from January 18-20. The Microinsurance Teams of the United States Agency for International Development-supported Rural Bankers Association of the Philippines-Microenterprise Access to Banking Services (RBAP-MABS) and RBAP-Rural Bankers Research Development Foundation Inc. participated.  The event was the third in a series of workshops under the Financial Literacy Roadshow on Microinsurance Advocacy that will be conducted in sixteen (16) regions of the country. Collaborators include German International Cooperation-Microinsurance Innovations Program for Social Security (GIZ-MIPSS), Insurance Commission, National Credit Council (NCC) of the Department of Finance (DOF) and Japan Fund for Poverty Reduction Program of the Asian Development Bank.

RBAP-MABS Participating Banks Mark New Milestone in Microfinance

The Rural Bankers Association of the Philippines-Microenterprise Access to Banking Services (RBAP-MABS) Program was launched in 1997. The Program – supported by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the Rural Bankers Association of the Philippines (RBAP), with oversight provided by the Mindanao Development Authority – assists rural banks to develop the capability to profitably provide financial services – microloans, microdeposits, microinsurance, and remittances – to the microenterprise sector. During its fourteen years of operation, the Program has also introduced innovations, both in delivery channels by pioneering and expanding mobile phone services and in helping rural banks to develop new microfinance products to serve small farmers (through the micro agri-loan product) and finance construction and housing improvement (through housing microfinace products).

Since 1997, the Program has worked with over 120 banks with more than 1,300 branches and other banking offices in the developing microfinance products, including microloans, microdeposits, micro-agri lending, housing microfinance, mobile banking, and microinsurance. These initiatives have allowed MABS participating banks to expand and offer new microfinance products and services to their clients.

RBAP-MABS Convenes Partners during a Regional Roundtable Conference in Manila

Regional Roundtable Conference

Over ninety participants from rural banks and other private sector partners gathered for the annual Regional Roundtable of the Rural Bankers Association of the Philippines-Microenterprise Access to Banking Services (RBAP-MABS), a program supported by the  United States Agency for International Development (USAID), last November 9 at the Hyatt Hotel and Casino Manila.

This year’s theme, “MABS Participating Banks: Moving Forward into the Future”, highlighted emerging issues and topics relevant to the expansion and continuation of microfinance services by the rural banks in the years to come. The event discussed pricing transparency, the developments and updates on credit reference sharing, strategic partnerships, savings mobilization, micro-insurance, and the latest local and international developments in mobile banking services.

RBAP holds 4th Microinsurance Roundtable Meeting with partners

The Rural Bankers Association of the Philippines (RBAP) convened partners and stakeholders who are active in the promotion of microinsurance in the country during the 4th of its roundtable meeting series last October 3.

Present at the event were eight (8) partner-insurers of RBAP, which include Bankers Assurance (MiCo), CocoLife, Country Bankers Insurance Group, Manila Bankers Life, MAPFRE Insular, MicroEnsure Philippines, Philippine Prudential Life, and Pioneer Insurance. Also in attendance were Acting Deputy Directors Gerardo Butardo and Atty. Manuel Seguerra of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) and Executive Director Joselito Almario of the Department of Finance National Credit Council.

Northwestern Mindanao Rural Bankers Complete the Microinsurance Basic Training Course

The Northwestern Mindanao Federation rural bank members participated in the Microinsurance (MI) Basic Training Course held at the Bethany Gardens Resort in Ozamis City, Misamis Occidental last August 11 and 12. Twenty-two (22) officers and staff from eleven (11) rural banks attended the course which covers the fundamentals of microinsurance, including marketing and servicing of clients.
