MABS prepares Camalig Bank for expansion of microfinance services

The MABS technical team also facilitated focus group discussions with Camalig Bank’s clients held at the bank’s Daraga Branch.

Sixteen officers and staff of Camalig Bank participated in the refresher course and training held for the bank by MABS on July 22-24, 2009 in Legaspi City, Albay. The 3-day training was intended to assist and prepare the bank in the expansion of its microfinance operations.

MABS conducted a Senior Management Orientation for the bank’s representatives, which included the background, importance, and benefits of microfinance, as well as its significance to the bank’s Vision, Mission and banking strategies. The MABS technical team also trained the participants on handling market research and the principles and requirements for successful microfinance expansion. MABS facilitated a workshop on revising the bank’s microfinance operations manual, improving its lending procedures and policies and refining its definition of job responsibilities. [Read more...]

MABS shares Philippine Mobile Phone Banking experiences with China’s Microfinance Credit Companies

ims1Taking its part in the promotion of effective use of modern technology to support microfinance, MABS shared its expertise on mobile phone banking to officers and representatives of various financial institutions at the International Microfinance Summit held on July 23-24 in Hohhot, Inner Mongolia.
MABS Regional Manager for Mindanao and Senior Management Information System Manager Anthony Petalcorin discussed about the operations and success of mobile phone banking in the Philippines under the RBAP-MABS initiative. Centered on building a strong microfinance and micro-credit system in China, the summit featured topics such as micro-credit regulation, supervision, funding, supporting structures and new technologies for microfinance.

The summit was sponsored by the , the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Finance Office of Inner Mongolia. It was attended primarily by senior officers of the Micro Credit Companies in Inner Mongolia and other parts of China, as well as representatives from the ADB, the International Finance Corp (IFC), the GTZ, and China’s national and provincial government offices including financial regulators.

MABS trains First Macro Bank on Mobile Phone Banking

In line with the Program’s continuing technical support and assistance to participating banks’ mobile phone banking rollout, MABS and G-Xchange Inc. (GXI) conducted mobile phone banking service (MBPS) training for First Macro Bank on July 17, 2009. MABS trains more rural bankers on mobile phone banking

In continued implementation of its Mobile Phone Banking Initiative, MABS conducted an accreditation training on mobile phone banking services (MBPS) in Iloilo City on July 10, 2009. Twenty-one participants from 12 rural banks participated in the training, including representatives from the Rural Bank of San Enrique, which has already been accredited to provide MPBS to its clients.
