Vegetable Vendor 1st Runner up in Visayas for Citibank's 2002 Microentrepreneur of the Year Awards

Emilia Montinola sells vegetables and other produce at her stall at the public market in San Carlos City. A loan from the Rural Bank of Victorias helped expand her business.

Through its participation in the Microenterprise Access to Banking Services (MABS) program, the Rural Bank of Victorias had developed and designed a loan product to help microentrepreneurs grow their business. Since January 1999, rural banks participating under the MABS program have disbursed more than 187,000 loans amounting to P1.8 billion, to more than 70,000 microenterprises. The USAID-supported MABS Program provides technical assistance and training to rural banks to develop their capability to profitably provide microfinance savings and credit services to microentrepreneurs.
