Maker of Peanut Biscuits is Microentrepreneur of the Year for 2002

Josephine Alima was chosen from among 40 top microentrepreneurs nationwide to win the Citibank 2002 Microentrepreneur of the Year award. A loan from the First Isabela Cooperative (FICO) Bank helped expand her business.

Through its participation in the Microenterprise Access to Banking Services (MABS) program, FICO had developed and designed a loan product specifically to meet the needs of microentrepreneurs. The USAID-supported MABS Program provides technical assistance and training to rural banks to develop their capability to profitably provide microfinance savings and credit services to microentrepreneurs. In his speech during the Citibank Awarding ceremonies, Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) Governor Rafael Buenaventura cited the success of MABS participant rural banks in expanding microfinance services.
