Microfinance Refresher (MF) Course for Account Officers

Thirty-one microfinance unit (MFU) staff from 11 Luzon participating banks (PBs) completed a three-day microfinance refresher course held July 4-6 in Manila. The course aimed to equip new MFU staff with the basic principles and practices that support sustainable and profitable MF operations and re-orient the more senior staff on best practices and preventing delinquency.

The course covered three basic modules: MF best practices, character and background investigation (CIBI) and cashflow analysis, and loan delinquency management. Participants learned how to integrate the basic principles of effective MF lending into the loan product design, analyze new and repeat microloan applicants’ capacity to repay loans based on personal and business information, and manage loan delinquency. During the course’s workshop, participants analyzed and solved MABS’ newly developed cashflow and delinquency cases.
