On April 26, 2005, the Rural Bankers Association of the Philippines (RBAP) signed a partnership agreement with the Microfinance Information eXchange (MIX), a Washington-based not-for-profit organization dedicated to increasing the availability of reliable, standardized and comparable data on the financial performance and outreach of microfinance institutions. The MIX is home to the leading global benchmarking publication in the microfinance industry, the MicroBanking Bulletin (MBB). By entering this partnership, RBAP-MABS will receive, and be trained in the use of, MIX performance monitoring and benchmarking tools and systems, which have been developed in accordance with internationally accepted microfinance standards. The use of these tools will increase RBAP’s capacity to collect, verify and benchmark performance information of its member rural banks. Over the next 12 months, RBAP and the MIX will build up rural banks’ database for benchmarking activities, promote transparency by facilitating the posting of rural bank’s institutional profiles in the MIX Market, and raise awareness and build rural banks’ capacity for reporting. In May, MIX installed its Performance Monitoring and Benchmarking (PMB) software and trained RBAP-MABS technical staff on its use.
