Microfinance Refresher Courses for Luzon & Visayas Participating Banks

As part of the continuing technical support to participating banks (PBs), MABS conducted two microfinance refresher courses in November. The Program regularly offers refresher courses to constantly update the MF knowledge base of PBs’ microfinance staff and to re-enforce microfinance best practices for new and existing staff.

Forty-three participants from 15 Luzon participating banks completed a three-day microfinance refresher course held from November 15-17 in Manila. The course topics included: microfinance best practices, credit and background investigation (CIBI), preparation of the CIBI report, cashflow lending, preparation of the cashflow report, cashflow review techniques, zero tolerance versus loan delinquency, loan delinquency control and prevention, and remedial management. To supplement the sessions on the MABS Approach basics, the course’s participants had exercises, group activities, and case study analyses.

Twenty-one participants from six Visayas PBs attended the second refresher course held from November 22 – 24 in Iloilo City. In addition to the CI/BI and cashflow lending sessions, participants were given an overview of marketing and service quality and pointers on prospecting for new clients.
